For Herren, The Past Is Right Where It’s Supposed To Be

“In June 2008, Chris Herren was found slumped over the steering wheel of his Mitsubishi Lancer and was arrested for heroin possession. He was found unconscious and was, according to police, an “ash gray color,” sweating and having difficulty breathing in the car.

That day, nearly three years ago, could be considered by many as rock bottom for Herren, the former Durfee High School, Denver Nuggets and Boston Celtics player who seemingly had it all, but has spent the latter part of his life struggling with substance abuse.

“I’ve had so many rock bottoms,” said Herren, who was honored as Durfee’s lone 2,000-point scorer prior to Friday night’s Hilltopper game against rival New Bedford. “When I was found on Oak Grove Ave. on June 4, 2008, that was probably one of the best days of my life. It was pivotal to getting me to where I am now.”
